Small auction on eBay

Seven items will be auctioned on eBay from August 2 to August 9:

1. A framed painting of Scully by Dennis Foote. It is about 2'x10" square and includes a personal letter to the buyer from Gillian Anderson. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA in the UK.
   
   
2. Autographed marquee, one of the two that were on display outside The Royal Court Theatre during the run of The Sweetest Swing in Baseball. Gillian has the other one. Dimensions are 7'H, 2'6"W. It is on flexiboard - foldable and very light. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA in the UK and NF, Inc. in the USA.
   
   
3. Autographed "all things" script: 7X17 TXF episode. Original Air Date: April 9, 2000. Written and directed by Gillian Anderson. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA and Buskaid.
   
   
4. Autographed "Beyond the Sea" script: 1X12 TXF episode. Original Air Date: January 7, 1994. Written by Glen Morgan and James Wong. Directed by David Nutter. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA and Buskaid.
   
   
5. Autographed "Requiem" script: 7X22 TXF episode. Part 1 of 3. Original Air Date: May 21, 2000. Written by Chris Carter. Directed by Kim Manners. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA and Buskaid.
   
   
6. Autographed SSiB tshirt: signed by Gillian Anderson and the whole cast of "The Sweetest Swing in Baseball". This t-shirt is from a limited edition of high quality black polo t-shirts that were sold during the May 2004 run of SSiB in London. "The Sweetest Swing inBaseball Royal Court 2004" is embroidered in white on the left breast. Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA and Buskaid.
   
   
7. Autographed Oscar Party Dress - Designed by Eduardo Lucero. Gillian Anderson wore it to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March of 2001. It was originally donated by Gillian to the 2001 NF, Inc. auction and is signed by Gillian Anderson (lower left, on the back of the dress). Proceeds from this item will benefit the NfA and Buskaid.

Dumisani and Doodle Day Updates

North Ealing School, in Pitshanger Lane, Ealing, won a Hewlett Packard Tablet PC in the first ever National Doodle Day competition which was held in aid of the Epilepsy Action and The Neurofibromatosis Association charities. Click here to read all about it. Over 350 celebrity doodles appeared in an exhibition alongside winning doodles from around the UK. A selection will be featured in a National Doodle Day book to raise additional funds. An on-line auction of celebrity doodles raised over £15,000 for the two charities.

Next year, February will be National Doodle Month in the UK. The NfA and Epilepsy Action charities hope to get the whole world doodling in due course!

At the Dumisani event last Saturday, the Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble played beautiful heartfelt music for about 45 minutes followed by a Question and Answer session with Gillian that went on for about 75 minutes. A report on many of the questions answered is available at GAuk.

Note: There seems to be some confusion regarding a CD whose title Gillian couldn't remember. It's been verified that the CD she was referring to is Music for Egon Schiele by Rachel's.

Thanks to a couple of fans who attended the event, we have pictures and sound files of Gillian answering questions.

GILLIAN ANDERSON URGES STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF TURKEY'S LANDMARK ANIMAL-PROTECTION LAW

On PETA's behalf, Gillian Anderson, star of The X-Files, has written to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdodan, thanking him for his government's passage of Turkey's first-ever comprehensive animal-protection law and urging him to do everything in his power "to ensure that it is fully enforced and its principles are carried out."

Anderson first wrote to then-Prime Minister Ecevit in 2001, asking for his support for the measure after learning that dogs, animals on farms, and other animals had no strong legal protections in Turkey and, as a result, were routinely beaten or killed with impunity. PETA helped garner support for the law, and some of its recommendations were included in the final version of the law, "Hayvanlary Koruma Kanunu."

Dear Prime Minister Erdogan:

It is with great pleasure that I write to thank you and all the honorable members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for passing the country's first-ever comprehensive animal-protection law.

When I first learned from my friends at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that animals had no viable legal protection from cruelty and neglect in Turkey, I wrote an urgent plea for help to the previous government. Since then, I understand that PETA and other groups have been working to garner support for the measure from compassionate legislators, the European Commission, international media outlets, and Turkish citizens - and on behalf of concerned individuals everywhere, please accept my greatest appreciation for taking this first step toward protecting those who don't have a voice of their own.

This law is a great step in the right direction, and now that it is in place, I respectfully ask that you do everything in your power to ensure that it is fully enforced and its principles are carried out. Doing so will help reduce suffering for farmed animals and keep the country's shelters from overcrowding and poor conditions through an effective spay, neuter, and release program. I'll never forget one tragic scene, originally shown on Turkish television, in which a stray dog was kicked, dragged, thrown into a garbage truck, and compacted while still fully conscious. If enforced, this law should help prevent such tragedies.

Turkey is a country famous for its friendly culture and rich history. I hope that it will now be equally well known for its compassion. If "Hayvanlary Koruma Kanunu" is strictly enforced, the world, including the European Union, will have no choice but to take notice.

Dumisani on Saturday

CONGRATULATIONS to Sandra Heller and Daniela Weimann, winners of the two Dumisani Entry Tickets Raffle!

Message from Gillian

Okay, here we go. I have to warn you, I am really tired and I have a plane to catch and I'm transitioning so my brain is a bit... you know.

Most of the questions have been about 'what the hell is going on' and even though I always tend to veer from anything close to answers -- not out of avoidance but just because I do -- I am actually going to attempt to answer. What the hell.

I have just completed my first draft of "Speed of Light" and, normally, I would be afraid of speaking about the whole thing but I have a clear understanding of the fact that this is still just the very beginning and that I'm the only one who has set eyes on it and it may be a long way off but at least that stage is complete.

"The Mighty Celt," hopefully, eventually, with a different title, was a fantastic experience all around. I loved the director, producers, actors and crew and I loved Belfast and I think the whole movie is really special and I can't wait to see it. Oh, and everyone on the planet is going to fall in love with the boy who plays my son.

It does indeed appear that the XF movie will be underway in the next year but a lot has to happen between now and then and a lot can happen between now and then. But it looks promising. Chris does not want to reveal at this point who or what will be in it but I got the impression it's going to be one scary mother.

Other projects are floating around. Few things I really don't want to do, a few things I would like to do, and I hesitate to say that some things will fall into place by the end of the year, but it looks good.

I feel like I'm writing some disjointed dispassionate horoscope or something.

Other than that, I need a good sleep and a hot bath and I think I might actually take care of the latter at this very moment.

Oh, and my nails are dirty. But soon to be clean.
