Our Robot Overlords

Screen Daily
January 30, 2013

Embankment Films' $21m-budgeted sci-fi Our Robot Overlords now has Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley attached. The film will mark Anderson's first sci-fi project outside of The X-Files franchise.

In a recent interview with Screen’s sister publication Broadcast, Anderson expressed excitement about the project from Grabbers director Jon Wright.

“I’ve got a film that’s shooting in May,” she said. “It’s with Ben Kingsley and it has robots. At the moment it’s called Our Robot Overlords.

“It’s a fantastic script set in the future about a woman who has four or five kids living with her in a world run by robots and they break out in search of the father who’s gone missing.”

The film is set in a robot-occupied, futuristic Britain in which a gang of teenagers struggle to survive. Produced by Piers Tempest and executive-produced by Mark Huffam, it has secured development backing from the BFI, and Nvizible will handle special effects.

IDW Publishing To Launch New X-FILES Series In 2013

San Diego, CA (January 28, 2013) - IDW Publishing and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products are thrilled to announce a partnership to publish an exciting series of works based on the legendary series, THE X-FILES. IDW's publishing plan includes reprinting collections of the classic issues published intermittently from 1995 through 2009, as well as creating brand-new X-FILES comics to launch in June 2013.

Over two movies and two hundred television episodes, THE X-FILES, is a juggernaut of science fiction-tinged intrigue, unique characters and carefully constructed stories. The show's popularity raged into the comic world, seeing successful series mounted by publishers Topps and Wildstorm. Despite this, new publishing has not been available since 2009's joint Wildstorm/IDW crossover - 30 Days of Night/The X-Files - leaving fans without a venue for the continuing sequential adventures of Mulder and Scully... until now.

Patron of Charles Dickens' statue fund

Gillian Anderson is made patron of Charles Dickens' statue fund
BBC News
January 23, 2013

Actress Gillian Anderson has been made patron of the fund behind the UK's first statue of Charles Dickens, which is due to be unveiled later this year.

The £140,000 monument will stand in Portsmouth where Dickens was born. It was due to be unveiled in 2012 to mark 200 years since the writer's birth, but insufficient funding meant it was put on hold. Another £25,000 still needs to be found and it is hoped Anderson will help spearhead the final fundraising push.

She said: "I was surprised that there wasn't a Dickens statue anywhere in Great Britain. One especially in Portsmouth, where he was born, would be a focal point to expand people's knowledge of and interest in Dickens and his writing."
